Ancient Greek Coins are fun to study. Ancient Greeks first made coins out of silver, then later they made them out of gold, bronze, and copper.Did you know that the bronze coins are mentioned in the bible? they can weigh up to 43 grams and be as light as 0.09 grams. Each city-state has its own coins, most of them represent their gods. there are about 14,000 Athenian coins. some of them are called drachma. coins, like pottery, are one of the most found artifacts at excavation sites. Maybe one day you might find one, if you get lucky.

Today we got to Skype with an archaeologist from Corinth, Greece. She taught us many things about Ancient Corinth and Greece! Check out the photos below! It is such an honor to be able to learn from someone in the field who does this for a living! We are extremely thankful for the time she took sharing with us! I liked the picture of her favorite artifact and the theater mask was cool. - Jack I liked learning about the fountain. - Asher I liked seeing the temple of Apollo. I think it was cool when she showed us the Pegasus coin. - Renna The story she told us about Artemis and the animals was interesting to me. - Jackson It was cool when the people went down into the wells and tunnels and had to crawl on their bellies. - Tyler It is cool that they found the remains at the hospital and church. - Cade The coins were cool. - Camden My favorite part was learning about the bronze eyelashes on statues. - Mrs. Sanchez We emailed her some more questions to answer for us: 1. Do you have a picture of the temple of Zeus? - Cade 2. Can you send us a picture of the coin with Pegasus on it? - Tyler 3. Do you know who taught Jason the messenger from Greek Mythology how to sail? - Jackson 4. Can there be one artifact that has two different types of clay? - Jack 5. How big is the Apollo temple in Corinth? - Renna 6. What is the rarest thing you have found? - Renna 7. Did the Corinthian alphabet get evolved into the current Greek alphabet? - Mrs. Sanchez 8. How many letters were in the Corinthian alphabet? - Renna 9. Do you know how many temples have been found in Greece? - Cade 10. How did people get into the temples that were on the high hills? - Cade 11. Have you found any remains of animals, besides humans? - Jack 12. Was there more than one hospital in Corinth? - Asher 13. Is the temple to Zeus in Olympia the biggest temple in Greece? - Renna 14. What is your favorite god or goddess? - Everyone The students were dropped off by an airplane at an unknown archaeology dig site. As they uncovered artifacts, they had to figure out:
After reading the book "I Am Albert Einstein," we made posters to tell about how we will never stop being curious! Marine Biology Reflection
What is a marine biologist? A marine biologist is someone who does research on ocean animals above and below the ocean. They can discover new animals or just find all of the mysteries about the ones already discovered.
Ocean Research: My ocean research was on the Indian Ocean. All the facts put in one piece of research, it can be pretty interesting! Such as,'The percentage of Indian Ocean is about 24.773 million more square miles than the United States!' and 'Did you know, the Indian Ocean is the 3rd largest body of water?'. Well, I was writing about percentage facts. Each one of them being different, it was hard to decide where to put them all. How to protect the Indian Ocean: Threats: 1. Aquaculture 2. Pollution from ships 3.Unfair fisheries Solutions: 1. Stop farming sea animals 2. Non-polluted ships 3.Not as much fishing Animal Research:My animal was a Hawks Bill Sea turtle. I wrote about it's life cycle, how it lives, and all the places it migrates to. I also made a diagram of it's body. Perch Dissection: We started by getting everything off the front. Then we went to the center. We got the swim bladder and some liver and got the eye out. Eventually it ended and we did the questions. Out of everything, the dissection was the most fun! By Luke Merrick A marine biologist is someone that studies water life. In the ocean research I learned that the Pacific Ocean on September 25, 1513.The Mariana Trench is located in the Pacific Ocean. The name Pacific comes from the Latin word "pace" which means peace. I also think we should protect the Pacific Ocean by recycling more or reusing things, safely dispose dangerous gasses, and create more marine protected areas.I researched an animal of my choice and I chose a Manta Ray. I chose a Manta Ray because I think they're interesting. Then I made a 3d Manta Ray (out of paper). I also dissected a Perch to see all the parts of a fish and what their made for. My favorite part was dissecting a Perch because I've never dissected anything before.
by Owen Brandt A marine biologist is a person who studies marine animals and plant life underwater.
For my research, I picked the Pacific Ocean. I learned that the Pacific Ocean s the largest ocean in the world. I also learned that the word Pacific comes from the Latin word pace which means peace. One way to protect the ocean is to recycle more and make more areas that you can't fish in. We also did animal research. For my animal I picked a Sea Otter. Sea Otters are very smart and can use tools like rocks, trash in the ocean (bad), and sticks. I got to make a 3D model of one and stuff it with paper. At the end of it all we got to dissect a perch. We learned about the different organs that a fish has and what they do. I liked learning about the swim bladder. Dissecting the fsh was my favorite part. Cam Hutto - Ellie Cooley
What is a marine biologist? A marine biologist is someone who studies the ocean and what lives in it. That includes animals and plants. They are very good at biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Ocean Research I researched the Arctic Ocean with Quincey. We found out a lot of interesting stuff. Did you know that it has tons of threats? We better help! How to Protect Oceans Two ways to help save oceans are do not pollute. Recycle and save the world and all the animals in it! The second way is to do less industrial fishing. The noise of the fishing vessels an deeply effect marine animals. We want all animals, marine or not, to live a great life! Be Brave, Help Save!! -Ellie Cooley and Quincey Smith Animal Research I researched the harp seal. We learned about animal taxonomy earlier that week, so it was pretty easy for me. The animal taxonomy for the harp seal is- Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordia, Class: Mammalia, Order: Carnivora, Family: Phocidae, Genus: Pagophilus, Species: Groenlandicus. My favorite fact about the is they forge for food at depths of 150 to 200 meters! Perch Dissection We got to dissect a perch with a partner. First, we measured it, length and girth. Then, we looked at the fins. Thirdly, we named all of the fins and described them. Finally, we looked at the organs inside the fish.It was pretty disgusting. Favorite Part My favorite part was the ocean zones. We studied each zone and the animals in them. There are five zones. The Sunlight zone, Twilight zone, Midnight zone, Abyss, And the Trench. So many animals to. Questions ? ? ? My only question is how many people have tried to go to the deepest part of the ocean, the Mariana Trench? What is a marine Biologist? A marine biologist is a person who studies ocean life. They also study fish like angler fish, blob fish, and sometimes just regular old fish.
Ocean Research In GT, we had to research an ocean. I researched on an ocean called the Indian Ocean. This ocean covers 14.4% of the Earth's surface. t is 23,443 million square miles more than the U.S.A. The Indian Ocean is located around South Africa, Madagascar, and Australia. It is the 3rd largest ocean. Recently, scientists have found a "lost continent". This continent submerged under water. The Indian Ocean's darkest and deepest point is the Sunda Deep. The highest point in this ocean is sea level. How to protect oceans There are many ways people hurt the ocean. Pollution done by oil spills and sips is a nasty habit done by many people. We can fix this by creating non-pollutable ships. Another threat is aquaculture (farming of sea animals). There is an easy way to fix this, you can stop farming sea animals. The last threat is unfair fisheries partnership agreements. We can fix this by not fishing as much as much as we used to. Animal Research I researched on an animal called the bottle nose dolphin. This is its animal taxonomy: Common name: Bottle nose dolphin Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class:Mammalia Order: Cetacea Family: Delphiniae Genus: Tursiops Species: Tursiops aduncus My animal can be found in the Indian Ocean. They are found in the sunlight zone. They are carnivores. Bottle nose dolphins are blue or dark grey with a pink tint. They swim in a group of 12 called a pod. They do not migrate. A females lifespan is 7-12 years, and a males lifespan is 9-13 years. Perch Dissection when we dissected a perch, we saw how its gills worked. We cut open its body to take a peek at the inside of a fish. You can find a swim bladder, stomach, gills, heart, liver, spleen, intestines, reproductive organ, and a kidney. Favorite Part My favorite part was the animal research. We made a 3D animal and a phamphlet. If you want to be a marine biologist when you grow up, you made a good choice!
