Today in class we let our saliva break down a cracker. We did that in a website called Digest Quest. The second thing we did was swallowing ice cold water. We felt the water going down the esophagus. Next we mixed water and oil. After those things we mixed egg yolk in the other mix . Even after we put all those things in there the oil stayed on top of everything. We also stretched a 7 meter long hose. It was supposed to resemble the small intestines. We cramped it together to see if it could fit in our belly. Next we looked at chicken bones. There were two. One was in vinegar and the other was in water. The last thing we did was the poop poem. Here's an example: Poop. I start out as food. You eat me. I'm in your mouth. You chew. Saliva everywhere. I go down the esophagus. I move on to the stomach. Then the liver and pancreas. Small intestine, large intestine. Then I land. Splash! I have landed. What a journey.

To keep your digestive system healthy, you should exercise daily, and eat good. Things that are especially good for you are fruits and veggies. Good exercises are planks and push-ups. You need a digestive system that is healthy because it is vital to your survival. Your digestive system is very important to your body.An example of a vegtable is corn, radish, and broccoli. Finally, you must keep your digestive system healthy because it is vital to your survival. Solomon, Weston, Tresean, and Cole The Digestive System contains of your mouth, esophagus, liver, stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, large intestine, small intestine, and the rectum. It starts with your mouth. When you consume food, it goes down your esophagus. When it reaches the bottom of your esophagus, it enters your stomach. After that, it goes into the small intestine. It stays in there for a while before it enters the large intestine. Finally, the food passes and it goes through your rectum. Those are the parts and functions of the Digestive System. Here are some fun facts:
* The tube, also known as the esophagus, from the mouth to the stomach is 30 feet long. * Fats, proteins, and carbohydrates go to your pancreas and/or liver. * Your Digestive System breaks down food and turns it into energy. Researched by: Emma, Emily, and Daylon Our GT class has been learning about the nervous system. A neuron is a nerve cell. In our body there are 100,000,000,000 neurons in our body. There are 6 different parts of a neuron. These are the different parts: cell body, dendrites, myelin sheath, axon, axon terminal, and nucleus. The nucleus is the part in the middle of the cell body. The nucleus like the brain of the cell. The myelin sheath is the part that protects the axon. Myelin sheath is made out of protein and fat. Information comes through the dendrites and exits through the axon terminal. The cell body is also known as the soma. Synapse are the connections that dendrites and axon terminals talk through. A nerve is a long chain of neurons. Dendrites talk to the axon terminal through synapse and axon terminal talk to dendrites. Dendrites protrude from the cell body. -Elizabeth and Ryan
We dissected a lambs eye. We saw the iris and the lens. The lamb had a gooey substance around the lens. It was gross , but after a little while it was fine. We got to hold it with our bare hands. It was hard to cut open the eye, but after that it was easier. We saw the muscles that move the eye. There were a ton of parts. There was so many that I didn't even see all of them. We got to play with all the parts of the eye and cut them. It was really fun. We could wear gloves if you wanted to, or you didn't have to. Most kids didn't. We examined all the parts of the eye. We then created a paper model of the eye that opens up and shows all the different parts. Our eyes are one of our five sense organs. Without our eyes, we would have to use our other senses to experience our world. By: Kate and Emily The nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
Your brain controls your moving, thinking, and senses. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body and the left side controls the right. This happens because your brain is divided into two hemispheres. The cerebellum is under the two hemispheres. The medulla, or brain stem, is connected to your spinal cord. The spinal cord is protected by your backbone. Whenever your eye see something falling, it sends a message to your motor cortex which goes to your visual cortex and sends the message to your spinal cord. It gets to your hand/finger muscle just in time to catch whatever is falling. There are different type of nerves. There are motor nerves and sensory nerves. All nerves are made of nerve cells. The motor nerves take messages from the brain to your muscles while the sensory nerves take messages from the brain to your five senses which are hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling, and seeing. Nerve cells are also called neurons and that is what gets the message for your hands to pick up things or set them down. Those are things that belong in the nervous system!- Emma and Solomon Cited- Solomon's Notebook |
