I did my report on ice skating. The reason why I chose this topic is because I wanted to learn more about how it has changed overtime and how it became a national sport. Here are a few facts about ice skating: Figure skates are different from hockey skates because of the large jagged teeth in front of the skate allowing the skater to jump. A 150 pound skater can land a jump with the force of a one-year old elephant! Ice skating was originally used as a way of transportation. In 800 BC people tied animal bones to their feet in order to cross rivers, lakes and streams. Today ice skating is a sport used in many national and international competitions including the Grand Pix, the Winter Olympics, the World Championships, the European Championships, and the Four Continents Championships.
