In the past history, microscopes have changed the way scientists have looked at everything in forensic science. Before: Scientists were not able to see fingerprints up close, so they could not see important details. This made it difficult to make accurate decisions on who committed the crime. Scientists needed a better way to identify better information. In the next few years, the best invention that would help identify better information in crimes was the magnifying glass. This invention was made to help detectives and scientists, but this was not enough. That's when the microscope was created.
Today: The microscope helps people all around the world today with getting a closer look at different things that may not be visible to the naked eye. It includes a light to help you see better and a zoom handle to get even closer. Scientists would probably wish they had never lived back then when they didn't have advanced lenses. The part you look through is called the eyepiece. -Elizabeth The objectives are the scopes that help you see the object on the stage. There are normally three objectives on a microscope. -Caleb The body tube supports the eyepiece. -Kate You grab the microscope by the arm. -Elizabeth The course adjustment helps focus the objectives. -Caleb The nose piece holds up the objectives. -Kate The light source, also known as the iris, gives the light so that you're able to see the object. -Elizabeth The fine adjustment helps focus the objectives better details so you can see the object better. -Caleb The coarse adjustment mainly focuses the objective. -Kate The base is the part that holds up every other parts of the microscope. -Elizabeth The diaphragm is the part of a microscope that adjusts the light for the microscopes user. -Caleb The C.S.I uses microscopes to examine smaller things. -Everyone We are learning about the three types of prints: Latent, Patent, and Impressed.. Latent Prints are invisible. You have to develop them with powder or chemicals to see them. Patent Prints are visible. It would be like looking at a footprint after someone stepped in paint. Impressed Prints are the kind that pushed down into a soft material. Like tire tracks in sand. These pictures are from our patent and latent print training labs. |
