Thanks to all of the people who came to our Engineering Scavenger Hunt! We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule, and we hope you learned a lot!

We had an engineering unit. We made a roller coaster during that unit. We followed the engineering design process by:
*POTENTIAL ENERGY is the potential to move, due to gravity. *KINETIC ENERGY is the energy all moving things have. *CENTRIPETAL FORCE is a force that pulls you to follow a curved pattern. *FRICTION is a force, created when two objects rub against each other. Our company is a company that creates roller coasters. We decided to make a new roller coaster called The Blue Cat Screamer. First, we designed it on a blue piece of construction paper, then we converted our ideas to a simulator. We tried our idea many, many, MANY times. In all, we had exactly 22 failures( talk about epic failures!). Each time, we had to modify the roller coaster when we made a mistake. Finally, at the very end of class, we had a SUCCESS. We learned about kinetic energy, potential energy, and centripetal force. We used this knowledge to design our roller coaster. Of coarse, it did not work the first time we tried it, but eventually we got it done right. The next thing we did was we built our roller coaster using foam track, marbles ( our 'car'), tape, and construction paper (for friction). We also had failures then, but we succeeded yet again. Today we made a roller coaster. It was quite interesting through out the adventure! We followed the engineering process. We failed but we kept improving , we never gave up and just kept on trying. We were the first ones to finish the roller coaster. I would consider it a good thing, but I do not want to brag. Every time we failed; we changed something. When the marble rolled off the end, we put more paper and velcro. When we tested again it worked! We were so happy. We tested it again to make sure it does work, and voila, it worked! Me and my group had tons of fun with this project. I would love to do this project again! This is the best project ever~Brady I loved this project! I would do it again if I could. ~Channing Mrs. Sanchez is the best! I can do this project over and over again! ~Macie
About our coaster: Liam- when we first designed our coaster on paper we had only 3 flaws 1: make end loop lower...2: make start hill higher...3: make end hill lower...SUCSESS!!!!!!!!!! our team is called "The Death Riders" Nick- I thought we would fail many times but we got it on the third try and almost threw a party. the following of the engineer design process:on the computer: think: we drew our seprate ideas on paper design: we drew our agreed idea on paper create: we put it on the computer test: 3rd try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with a marble: think: what would we need? design: on paper create: with tubes test: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 |
