Today we learned that detectives can find clues like fingerprints to help them search for the bad guys. We looked at our fingerprints with graphite, tape, and a magnifying glass. Then we had write what kind of fingerprint it was underneath it. -- Dallas Fingerprint Facts:

Last week we completed an escape room. We had to get out of the locked room by solving a mystery. The mysteries were made of puzzles and codes. We worked in teams. We learned:
*You will need to rejoin this remind, even if your child was in the first and second grade class last year!
We took our first and second grade students on a field trip to the Discovery Science Place to learn about the human body! Have a look at the great time the students had! We are studying different systems of the body. We first learned about the Nervous System. The three parts of the nervous system are the spinal cord, nerves, and the brain. We learned that there are nerves throughout our body. These nerves send messages to our brains to let us know what our five senses see, hear, touch, smell, or taste. We learned that your fingers and your face have more nerves so they are more sensitive to touch. We did stations to learn more about our five senses. At one station we touched things inside of bags to guess what they were without looking. At another station we shook eggs to use our sense of hearing to see what was inside. At the last station we got to taste different foods. We learned that your tongue can only taste five flavors. They are: bitter (like unsweetened chocolate, vitamins or coffee), sweet (like m&ms or candy), sour (like lemons), salty (like pretzels), and umami (like meat or ripe tomatoes). We learned that the nervous system and our five senses keep us safe. Our brain tells us what to do. For example, the sense of sight keeps you safe from strangers or falling in a hole. You can hear when a car is coming and your brain will tell you to stop. Our sense of smell can warn us that there is a fire if we smell smoke. These are just a few ways our 5 senses keep us safe. For the past two weeks, we have been learning about Elections. We learned how they work and how they have changed over time. We also did research on one of the past presidents and created a "Hall of Presidents" out in our hallway. We would love for you to come look at it!
I want to thank those of you who were able to make it to our open house! I hope you had a great time and learned something new! |
