Look how much our bacteria has multiplied in just one day!! They kids haven't gotten to see them today, but I took pictures then put them in the fridge to slow/stop their growth until next Wednesday! Such an interesting experiment!

Things we learned about bacteria:- They do make you sick every time they enter your body. (Jackson) - They make copies of themselves. (Sophia) Which means they multiply themselves. (Emily) - They can get into your body through broken skin. (James) - They can also enter your body through your nose and mouth. (Makayla) - There can be good germs and bad germs. (Sam) - Bad bacterias are called pathogens. (Zachary) - White blood cells are like police inside your body and if they see a pathogen, they send an antibody to kill it. (Paige) - Fevers can be good because they help get rid of bad bacteria by killing them. (Sophia) - Most bacteria is good for you. (Emily) - White blood cells are part of your immune system. (Kaydence) - Germs have a protein coat that they take off when they get inside a human cell. (Emily) - You should not shake hands with someone who is sick. (Sophia) - Bacteria can be found everywhere. (Sam) Observations:- Most of the bacteria were white. (Emily) - Some of the bacteria looked fuzzy. (Kaydence) - All of the ones with the mouth have the least amount of bacteria growing. (Kaydence) - Some of them are gold colored. (Makayla) - Some of them have really tiny spots. (James) - The faces had the most growth. (Sophia) Predictions: - They will grow bigger. (Emily) - Some of them will have big gold spots. (James) - It will spread. (Sophia) - They will be larger and tougher which would make you sicker if they are pathogens. (Sam) - They will make more copies of their selves. (Sophia) Pictures from today! Look at those bacteria multiply . . .In this unit we learned about geography. Our class chose to study the country of Japan. We created an animal pictionary, a 3D map, a modes of transportation chart, a military dense book, a passport, a song, and a postcard using information we learned about Japan. You can see the pictures of our products below. When we were finished, we skyped with another school and guessed each others countries. We had a lot of fun! The lyrics to the song we wrote!Emily's dad, who is a microbiologist, sent us an awesome experiment to watch our bacteria grow. We took bacteria from our mouths, faces, or hands and put it into a dish using a clean cotton swab. Then we labeled our dishes and sealed them shut with paraffin wax. We are going to watch our our bacteria grows and changes over time. Check the pictures of us starting our bacteria experiment. |
