Today we learned about Simple Machines. There are six different types of simple machines: pulley, wheel and axle, lever, inclined plane, screw, and wedge. After learning about the different types, we went on a scavenger hunt to find different simple machines throughout the school. Check out our finds below! Can you identify which type of simple machines each item is? After learning about Simple Machines, we experimented with some in our classroom!
Today we read a story about Rosie Revere. Rosie loved to take apart things and find items in the trash and turn them into incredible designs. We learned that an engineer is someone who designs something to solve a problem. After that we took apart several items and looked at the different parts that makes up each item. We also talked about what function, or job each piece was there for. Then, we took the different pieces and tried to create new inventions just like Rosie Revere! We can't wait for you to see them at our first open house! Our biggest lesson from today was a quote from Rosie's great-great-aunt Rose:
"Life might have its failures, but this was not it. The only true failure can come if you quit." |
